Notice for the Citizens of the Federated States of Micronesia Residing in the United States of America

17 Feb 2017

It has been widely reported in news outlets and social media that the administration of President Donald Trump is considering a new or separate Executive Order entitled "Protecting Taxpayer Resources by Ensuring Our Immigration Laws Promote Accountability and Responsibility." If passed, the reported draft text, among other things, would make lawful permanent residents already in the United States vulnerable to deportation in some circumstances if they use federal-means tested public benefits or are on "welfare" assistance.

The FSM Government is not in a position at this point to confirm that such Executive Order will in fact be issued. Further, even if an executive order will be issued, it is not in a position to confirm what the executive order will actually say or entail and whether it will have any effect on the citizens of the Freely Associated States in the US.

Your FSM Embassy in Washington DC would like to assure you that it is monitoring the situation very closely and it intends to report on significant future development of the executive order, if any. Finally, we would like to encourage our citizens to continue conducting ourselves as exemplary representatives of our country here in the US by being law-abiding and contributing members of our respective communities.
