Wreath Laying Ceremony In Honor of the 75th Anniversary of the WW II Liberation of Guam

Washington, D.C., July 16, 2019 – A solemn wreath laying ceremony was held today at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington Cemetery, Virginia, to honor the 75th Anniversary of the World War II Liberation of Guam. Congressman Michael F. Q. San Nicholas of Guam and Congressman Gregory “Kilili” Sablan of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) led the ceremony in laying the wreath. A handful of Guamanians also graced the event. Donned in colorful Chamorro attire, they had traveled from afar to D.C. to participate at the ceremony. The Embassy of the Federated States of Micronesia in D.C. was represented by its staff and led by Mr. Jackson Soram, Deputy Chief of Mission, who stood in Ambassador Susaia’s stead, as Ambassador is currently on travel assignment to Palikir.

On behalf of the people and the government of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Embassy wishes to express its Micronesian solidarity to the people of Guam on this occasion as they commemorate the 75th Year of WWII Liberation Day of Guam.
