Panuelo, kicked off his official meetings in Washington D.C. this morning, first with a call on the Honorable David Bernhardt, U.S. Secretary of the Department of the Interior. The appropriateness of the first call on the Department of Interior is significant in light of the Department’s role in implementing the Compact of Free Association (COFA). The Department continues to play a key role in the U.S.-FSM relations on a day-to-day basis.

Wreath Laying Ceremony In Honor of the 75th Anniversary of the WW II Liberation of Guam

Washington, D.C., July 16, 2019 – A solemn wreath laying ceremony was held today at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington Cemetery, Virginia, to honor the 75th Anniversary of the World War II Liberation of Guam. Congressman Michael F. Q. San Nicholas of Guam and Congressman Gregory “Kilili” Sablan of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) led the ceremony in laying the wreath. A handful of Guamanians also graced the event. Donned in colorful Chamorro attire, they had traveled from afar to D.C. to participate at the ceremony.
